I had a dream last night where I was on a quest. I solved a series of puzzles through a network of caves, fields, beaches, and maps to save my peers, only for the world to be wiped out and the puzzle be reset. New players were selected and I became the one who helped to guide the chosen puzzle solver on their quest, knowing that ultimately them solving the puzzle would lead to the world resetting and my disappearing along with it. It was so difficult to watch the new solver struggle and fail to work out the part of the puzzle I was now part of. This dream got me thinking about legacy and my life. How important it was to guide others who come after us, helping them but not stopping them make their own mistakes and letting them in part figure things out for themselves. Also about respecting those who came before us to set this path for us, without whose sacrifice, we would not exist, or be on our current path.
As someone whose path so far has been rocky, and perhaps with a set of complex puzzles I haven’t yet worked out, I am very much still on that journey. I know those before me worked it out eventually and saw it to the end, and those behind me are making their own way. I am not sure where I am in the scale of teacher or student, but I shall continue on this path until it makes sense.
